52 Pillows – #17 – Chocolate Yumminess

This week I have felt worn out and drained and if I didn’t have the fabric already chosen for this week’s pillow… uh, yeah, wouldn’t have happened.

A simple pillow cover, this week’s is made from recycled discontinued home decorative fabric swatches again. The front is a dark chocolate-brown chenille type fabric with light teal highlights – very soft and yummy and soothing. The backing is a milk chocolate-brown microsuede. Soft yumminess all around…

Pretty basic, but unwittingly, I chose really comforting fabrics weeks in advance and just what I needed to keep me on my year-long creative journey during this challenging week.

52 Pillows – #16 – Horizon

My son is just completing his 3rd year at a little private school called Horizon. He loves it and has thrived. Our family has loved it… Unfortunately, after 30 years, they are having to close their doors due to enrollment being down over 60%. About 2 months ago we were informed of this big change and were shocked and, well, heartbroken. We really expected to have our son there until junior high. And there’s no other school even remotely like it in our area where we can send him now.

At the end of every school year the school has their annual Art Fair and End of Year Celebration so ever since the sad announcement I’ve wanted to do this pillow as a memoir.

My son found my pillow sketch one day and colored it in. He added the rainbow and the sunshine and the composition was complete. Finally it’s all finished (of course I left it until the last-minute) and it will be auctioned in the silent auction.

We will all miss Horizon School…
