My latest custom challenge was making roman shades for this set of french doors in a playroom. The kids had hung on the previous drapes so much the rod had come out of the wall.

Before

So they needed something that would not only be sturdy enough to handle the kids, but also insulate against the afternoon direct sunlight, and create night time privacy.

In the interim, butcher paper had been hung over the windows

The client chose roman shades so the door would be fully functional, could be raised or lowered depending on time of day and hopefully be sturdy enough to take the kids beating if necessary, or at the very least, be raised to a level the kids couldn’t fiddle with.

Shades lowered

All finished!

The fabric they chose is super cute and to help in durability I constructed the shades to velcro to the front of the mounting board. If the kids do hang on the shades, hopefully they’ll just come un-velcroed instead of tearing the hardware off the wall again. Anyway, they turned out really cute.  = )

I just completed another beautiful collaborative project with Teresa Karagas – window coverings for our client, Donna’s new home.

Here’s the drawing we started out with…

And installed last week and finished it off today…

When we installed last week, realized these built-in cabinets were kind of in the way, so added tiebacks in the same fabric today – it looks much better.

The valance is almost 12 ft. long and my car just isn’t big enough to hold that kind of project. So after chatting with my installer about it, we decided to have the mount board in 2 pieces and have the decorative part of the valance velcro onto the board. I was able to fit all the pieces into my car this way and you can’t even tell that it’s pieced together…  = )

Another challenge was the fabric the client chose for the dining room drapes was very stiff and wasn’t draping well, so we added tiebacks to those as well today – much better…

And the whole thing together…

You can see pictures of the entire room design by going to Teresa Karagas’ blog or visiting Rebecca Seamons’ Facebook album (our talented photographer!)
