What one does for one niece, one must do the same (or similar) for the other(s). That’s my rule of thumb anyway. Don’t want anyone to feel left out. So this week’s pillow is another collaboration with my amazing sister-in-law for her youngest daughter, Lucy. I believe the pillow is for her birthday in the fall, but that’s cutting it too close to my personal deadline  ; )

Having only a son (so far) it’s rare I get to make girly, ruffly, pink and yellow things. What a treat!

I have to admit… under all this chipper happiness in this entry, I really wanted to quit my project this week. I couldn’t remember why I was doing it and was pretty much done. But then I read this great entry this morning in author Shannon Hale’s blog that really inspired me and helped me remember why artists do what they do…

(referring to scientist Alexander Fleming) “Now I realize he was a creative–like writers, like painters, like musicians. Like scientists. We do the work. Every day, we do the work. We go into the lab and put in the hours, just in case. And often it’s not our training or talent or intellect or cleverness that makes something work–it’s happenstance. It’s serendipity…”

So I’m back in, I’ll keep doing the work… And, BTW, if you’re wondering if I’m a religious person based on the subject matter of some of my pillows, I’m not, but my brother and sister-in-law are and that’s cool with me.  = )

We’re back to CUTE! With a lot of Girly Girl in the mix! EEEE!

This week I collaborated with my sister-in-law who, to blow off a little steam from being a stay-at-home to my 4 darling nieces and nephews, embroiders. Bless her heart! She’s amazing!

She embroidered this cute piece for my oldest niece who just turned 8 and asked me to make it into a pillow for her birthday. It’s not often I get to delve into the world of flowers, butterflies and PINK. I had such fun!

So here it is – Pillow #9 – and Happy Birthday Madi!!!

Here’s a little background from this shot. I have one son, a very boys kind of boy, but his room has green walls so I wanted to photograph Madi’s pillow in his room. Surrounding Madi’s girly girl pillow were Superman, Spider-Man, Transformers and Hero Factory heroes, ready to save the day at a moment’s notice. (If you look closely at the main picture above, you’ll see Spider-Man’s foot peeking in. I didn’t feel compelled to Photoshop it out.)  = )
